Londoner Golf Club Review of 2024

Londoner Golf Club Review of 2024

Hello All and welcome to the review of 2024. It was another successful and enjoyable year of golf, fun and friendship. Let's take a look at the details.

Our 2024 Events and Courses

We had 28 days of golf totalling over 800 rounds. We played our regular events at Vintage (8), Muang Kaew (4), Floraville (4) and Subhapruek (4)
We held 3 Away Weekends:
Soi Dao (Pairs)
Black Mountain (Presidents Cup)
Khao Yai (Club Championships)

Returning to Soi Dao as a society for the first time in ten years was very successful. But it is a long way so won't be entering the rotation as an every year destination. We went to Khao Yai Country Club for the first time and feedback was excellent so we expect to return there in 2025.

We were 25 during 2024 and we celebrated our past and looked forward to the future at a special event at Lam Lukka. We had new shirts to celebrate too!

We turned 25!

We celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Londoner Golf Club in style during the year. The highlight being the special event in May at Lam Lukka where many past players, captains and committee members gathered for a day of golf, chatter and celebration. We also produced a celebratory shirt for the year and made sure many of the old stories from our past days were brought back to life for a fresh generation of Londoner golfers. As well as a chance to look back, this year was also a time to reflect and look forward. The golf environment in Thailand has changed, golf bookings are easily accessible to every player, other activities to do at the weekend exist in their thousands yet still we thrive as a popular society. The success of this club is a result of the efforts of its members, turning up, supporting the club, giving up time voluntarily to help others. Long may it continue.

Playing Numbers

Our average number of players during 2024 was 30. This comes with wide variation - as low as 16 in the rainy season and school holidays but over 40 at more popular times for golf. Overall we attract good numbers to our events - we would like to be at 32 each time as that makes grouping easy and we are regularly the first society for players new to Bangkok to find. With these numbers we manage to keep providing a free Christmas dinner to members and a guest plus providing decent prizes and being able to negotiate reasonable discounts from courses at the weekends. We remain committed to events on Saturdays.

Thank you to our sponsors

As always, a big thanks to our sponsors. Their generosity and support allow us to provide good prizes in the form of wine, vouchers for services or golf balls embossed with an LGC logo. Please take a look at the sponsors page on this website and follow the links to learn more.

First, our title sponsor, the Londoner Brew Pub from where we get our name and they have been with us on our whole journey. Thank you to John and Derek Stamp plus current GM, Dan Pratt.

Secondly, all our other great sponsors. The Golf Point Center who are helping some members with their game including me and I expect several more during 2025; AIMS Pensions and Investments; The Shamrock pub; Bourbon Street restaurant; our sister society the Bangkok Wanderers and the Marriott Bangkok Sukhumvit hotel.

If you would like to get your business more well known or given some props through our golf society please have a chat with one of the committee. Sponsorship is also a good way to give back to the golf community if you are not able to dedicate time to assisting yourself. I like to think of it as a way of saying thank you for the years of having golf and competitions organised for you. Donations are also welcomed - you've seen that we look after our money to give good value back to our members.

Thank you to the Committee

Thanks to the committee – Steven, Rich, Phil, Manu, Barbara, John, Stefan, Paul, Tony, Didi. The committee runs well and we have a financially sound club. Rich White has taken on the rejuvenated role of Club Secretary as the duties of the captain have been shared around. We are also pleased that James Taylor-Alford has joined the committee and anticipating great contributions from him.

Celebrating our 2024 Winners

We also won both our inter-society matches! This pic is of the team celebrating after the win versus Wanderers. The other win was achieved against the British Club.

That’s all for now and I hope you enjoyed this look back at 2024. Coming soon - a look forward to 2025 and some exciting, fun enhancements for our community including an additional differently calculated Order of Merit competition, refinement to the Team Competition and a additional Scramble event. We have events open for registration so separate messages will be sent for each of these. Thanks for being a Londoner and if you are reading this in a café or bar, tip generously and drive home safely. If you are at home – good for you. See you in 2025!
